Who we are
Welcome to Father Isle Candle Co. and thank you for visiting with us. We started Father Isle with the intention of sharing the coastal scents of Padre Island and southern country living with others. From sea breezes blowing across the dunes to traditional southern fall scents that remind us of who we are and where we are from. We believe these candles reflect and capture the warmth and relaxed feeling of being home.
Each and every Father Isle candle is hand blended, hand poured and crafted with unique fragrances that promote relaxation, stress reduction and that just plain smell good. We really like scents that are ocean and beachfront inspired, but we also wanted to capture our southern roots that can range from wet leaves in Fall to country kitchens in winter.
Thank you again for stopping by and we hope you enjoy our candles as much as we enjoy making and sharing them with you.
Sincerely,
David and Teresa
Oh and P.S. For you history buffs, here is where Father Isle and Padre Island come together.
Father Isle or “The Father Isle” Refers to the direct English translation for Padre Island, the longest barrier island in the world located along the Texas coast.
Padre Island was named after a Spanish missionary priest named Father Jose Nicholas Balli who in 1804 established the island’s first permanent settlement near the southern tip. The island eventually took his name.
A Deeper historical dive. Prior to 1804 the only people known to have inhabited or visited the island were nomadic native Americans, Spanish troops and the survivors of three shipwrecks on the island’s shore in 1554. Four nations have owned Padre Island at different times. The first was Spain from the entry into the new world until the Mexican Revolution of 1820. From 1821 until 1836 Mexico owned the island until the newly formed Republic of Texas claimed the area. Following the US / Mexican war 1845-1848 the United States acquired the island.
Thanks again,
